Annotation & Journal/Performance Task Assignments

You’ll be given more specifics in class, however, here’s an overview of what to include for annotations & journals/performance tasks.

Annotations

-All annotations should include your name, the page number, & a general category.  You may need more than one post it for each annotation.

*Chapters 1-2:   Make 3+ annotations per chapter.  For each annotation summarize one element of life in Jonas’s community AND include a brief summary as to whether or not you think that element of their life is positive or negative.  Briefly explain your answer.

*Chapters 5-8:  Make 3+ annotations per chapter.   Annotations should include a brief summary of a fact or event you found interesting.  Also, include a discussion question related to that fact/event.   Discussion questions should be open ended (avoid YES/NO questions).

*Chapters 13-16:  Make 3+ annotations per chapter.   Annotations should focus on the memories discussed in the chapters.    What might be the purpose of sharing those particular memories?   What’s the reaction to the memories?   What memories do you think would have been important to share?

Journals

-All journals should include your name and a heading (focus of the journal).  Journals should be one page minimum.

-Two Child journal. Summarize China’s Two Child policy as outlined in the article.    Include an analysis as to the effectiveness of this policy using information from the article and the video.

-Job assignment journal.   Analyze the effectiveness of Jonas’s job assignment.  Does the job fit his interests & skills?   Explain your answer using specifics from the text.  How do you feel about the job you were assigned?

-Color journal.   What are the pros & cons of seeing in color?   How has lack of color helped in Jonas’ community?  How has it hurt the citizens in Jonas’s community?  Would eliminating color in our society help in any way?  Explain your answer using specifics from the text.

-End of book prediction.  How do you think the book will end?   Make sure to include a rationale for your prediction.   What specific events/elements of the novel lead you to your prediction.

-End of book explanation.   The ending of the book is purposefully vague.   Write out an explanation as to what you think actually happened.   Additionally, describe how you would have liked the book to end.
